Complete description

Edgar Allan Poe is waiting for you in front of the Île de la Cité, ready to take you on a chilling journey
through the darkest corners of Paris. Your guide has done his research! To complete his collection of
tales, Extraordinary Stories, the writer has come to seek inspiration in the shadowy streets of the
capital, hunting for its most sinister secrets. And today, he is in the mood to share them with you…
Your first stop leads you to the foot of Notre-Dame de Paris. The “Grand Lady of Paris” hides many
mysteries beneath her ancient stones. Let yourself be drawn into a strange and old tale where the
Devil himself plays the leading role. You will soon understand why people say that “the Devil is in the
details.” Perhaps it was even the devil himself, lurking in the shadows, who fanned the flames of the
tragic fire that ravaged the cathedral on April fifteenth, two thousand nineteen. Who could say for
sure… or prove otherwise?

This dark presence seems to have seeped into the entire Île de la Cité, as its streets are filled with eerie
tales and grim stories. Follow Edgar Allan Poe through the shadowy alleys, where he will share the
stories that have left the strongest mark on him and inspired his writing.

Around a street corner, brace yourself for the gruesome legend of the baker and the barber of Rue des
Marmousets—now Rue Chanoinesse—a tale sure to kill your appetite. Or shiver as you hear about the
legend of the Grumpy Monk, Paris’s very own boogeyman, who terrified generations of disobedient
children. After all, as the saying goes… the robe does not make the monk, and you are about to find out
why.

Edgar Allan Poe will then lead you to the far end of the Île de la Cité, taking you on a bracing walk along
the quays. At the Square du Vert-Galant, you will uncover France’s most famous curse—the one that
forever marked Friday the thirteenth as an unlucky day. You will relive the horror of the final moments
of the Templars and their Grand Master, Jacques de Molay, burned alive at the tip of the island.

As you cross the Pont Neuf, you will come face to face with a mystery that remains unsolved to this
day: the enigma of the Unknown Woman of the Seine. This angelic face in death left Edgar Allan Poe
stunned by its striking resemblance to Annabel Lee, a childhood love to whom he dedicated one of his
most beautiful poems. It is with a melancholy recitation of Annabel Lee that the poet will have the
honor of ending this tour—along with, of course, a few reading recommendations to continue your
journey into the darker side of life…
As the stories unfold, reality and imagination mix together, revealing another side of Paris—both eerie
and enchanting…
